INDEPENDENT WRESTLING (LETS KEEP WRESTLING ALIVE)
|
|
One thing that I personally find extremely annoying is the number of stupid people, some of which are so-called fans even, who associate all wrestling with the WWE. They always think of Vince. That is like associating Michael Jordan to all basketball. You wouldn’t go to a high school or college basketball game and ask if Michael Jordan is going to be playing so why the hell would you ask if Triple H or the Rock will be at an independent show, it’s just stupid. Any idiot knows that they are under contract with Vince and that the Rock is extremely busy filming more movies. What I guess a lot of mark fans (and if you don’t know what the term mark means then I guess this includes you) don’t realize is that the independent circuit is like the minor leagues in baseball. You go to a minor league baseball game to see baseball for the love of baseball. You don’t necessarily know all the players because they haven’t made it to the big leagues yet, but it doesn’t matter cause they entertain you, and many of them make it big later on in their career. So you tell me, Why is this different from wrestling? You pay half the price of a cheap seat at a WWE show to get entertained by some future WWE top prospects, and you actually get to meet them and get pictures and autographs of them. It’s like meeting Jim Carey when he started in small comedy clubs trying to make a name for himself. Some top name indy stars out there right now are guys like Low Ki, Slyk Wagner Brown, April Hunter, Tracy Brooks, Mercedes Martinez, Tommy Suede, Inferno, Reckless Youth, Mike Quakenbush, and Afa Jr. just to name a few. Some of these guys are very close to making debuts in the WWE, in fact a few of them have already worked for Vince in the form of extras in skits and dark matches so watch out for these guys in the near future. So why wouldn’t you want to come to a show and support these great talents before they make it big in the WWE. I would much rather spend $15 and sit front row at an independent show and actually get to meet some talented down to earth wrestlers than to pay twice the cost to go to WWE show when I don’t get to meet anyone and I can see it for free on television. Think about it! Wrestling is almost dead in my town, because so called die-hard fans don’t turn out to these independent shows anymore which really pisses me off cause now they have ruined it for me and other real true wrestling fans like me. I would go to a show even if the main event was between two fruits like Bobby Banana vs. Tommy Tomato (lol) but seriously I would because wrestling is a way of life, it’s what I’ve known since I was about three years old. I don’t want the tradition of wrestling to die, but we need you fans to help support our cause. A die-hard fan is one who watches wrestling even if it sucks for weeks at time, because you never know when it’s going to pick up again and you don’t want to miss that great story line or the best match you’ve seen in years. A true die-hard fan is one that watches as much as they can just to keep the wrestling alive for the love of it, because it becomes a part of you and it’s all you know and without it there would be a hole in your life. This is the kind of fan that I’m talking about. It goes beyond just a fan and it’s bigger than wrestling itself. I don’t just know wrestling, I am wrestling. Wrestling is life! Unfortunately people like me seem to be a dying breed. To you long time fans, just go back in time and remember growing up how wrestling impacted you. Remember the good ole days when you first became a Hulk-A-Maniac and Hulk-A-Mania was running wild. Remember when you were a little Warrior. Remember when Hogan slammed Andre “The Giant” at WrestleMania 3 in front of 93,000 screaming fans in the Pontiac Silver Dome and how it took your breathe away and remember the excitement when Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka soared off the top of a 15 foot high cage in Madison Square Garden. Think of any time you want where for one moment wrestling meant something to you. Think about all of the times when wrestling was great and lets relive those moments to remind ourselves of why we watch. Lets keep supporting the young talent who are just looking for a shot at greatness. These guys bust their a$$es for us, the fans. So lets keep the wrestling alive for our kids, our grandkids, and future generations. Hopefully you have either learned or have felt something special from reading this column. I do what I do strictly for the love and respect of the business, and to give back to all the fans like me who still care. I’m just breaking in and I won’t let wrestling die without a fight but I need your help. Now I have been typing all morning and I’m tired so if you agree and support my thoughts I would like to hear from you so I can prove that I’m doing this for a reason and that people still care.
